The Arizona Polygraph Association is dedicated to the advancement of standardization in the polygraph industry as well as upholding the professionalism and ethics to which all polygraph examiners should strive. 

This site is intended for all individuals interested in the psychophysiological detection of deception. No matter what your affiliations, we think you will find this site worth investigating.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
AzPA Quality Assurance Initiative – On April 29, 2010 the Board of Directors of the Arizona Polygraph Association approved a quality assurance (QA) initiative which would be a “no-fee” public service for polygraph examiners, as well as end-users of polygraph within the private and public sectors.  A six member panel from the Association will be separated into three categories to serve our community, including law enforcement, private examiners and Post-Conviction Sex Offender Testing (PCSOT).

Any information provided during a requested QA will be done anonymously and no information will be accepted that identifies the test subject’s identification.  This QA process only requires the polygraph charts, all test questions utilized and a redacted version of the corresponding polygraph report. This QA process is not a replacement for official Quality Control or Peer Review processes adopted by the American Polygraph Association (APA) or the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) which are designed for a more comprehensive analysis which typically includes the review of all relevant materials, including the electronic recording of the polygraph examination in its entirety. The AzPA Quality Assurance Review will be considered a “work-in-progress” initiative, and a formal written protocol will be forthcoming. Though this may not be an ideal resolution to an on-going concern, it is a start in the right direction.

In the future, the Association will explore the feasibility of other incentives to advance the quality of polygraphy within the State of Arizona and uphold current industry standards.  As always the Arizona Polygraph Association strongly recommends the user of polygraph to demand quality service and integrity when choosing a polygraph examiner.  We believe that starts with membership within our Association.

The next training seminar scheduled for June, 28-29, 2010 will cover Quality Assurance implementation, the recently approved APA model policy for Post-Conviction Sex Offender Testing (PCSOT) and a collaborative use of polygraphy within treatment programs designed for domestic violent (DV) offenders.

How to pick a polygraph examiner.

1. Did they attend an accredited school?

2. Are they a member of the Arizona Polygraph Association, the American Polygraph Association, the American Association of Police Polygraphists, or the National Polygraph Association?

3. Have they administered at least two hundred (200) polygraph examinations utilizing an instrument capable of simultaneously recording respiration, psycho-galvanic skin reactions. pulse rate and relative blood pressure changes within three (3) years following completion of training at a polygraph school (accredited). At least fifty (50) of the two hundred (200) examinations must be "Specific" as opposed to screening examinations.
